Step Into the Help You Need

FAQS

What is the process, and how does therapy work?

As therapy is customized to address your unique issues and objectives, my approach will vary for each individual. I adapt my therapeutic methods to align with your specific goals. I offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation to learn a bit about why you are seeking therapy and assess if it feels like we are a good fit. The first session is about getting comfortable with the process. You’ll be able to tell me a little more about what you hope to gain from therapy as well as your expectations about the therapeutic process. In the beginning, weekly sessions are common. Frequency is always tailored to indivdual needs.

How long will it take?

It’s not feasible to provide a definitive answer within a general FAQ page. Each person’s situation is unique, and the duration of therapy necessary to achieve your goals is influenced by various factors, including your motivation for personal growth, dedication, and the underlying reasons prompting you to seek therapy.

How can I get the most out of Therapy?

I’m delighted that you are committed to maximizing the benefits of your sessions. Your active engagement and dedication are pivotal to your progress. Since our sessions occur only once a week, it’s the effort you put in outside of our meetings that will truly facilitate your personal growth.

What if I am late for a session?

If you arrive late for your session, please be aware that it will still conclude at the scheduled time of 50 minutes. We are unable to extend sessions beyond this time to make up for lost time in future sessions, as it may affect other clients’ appointments. However, upon request and subject to your therapists’ availability, longer sessions can be arranged at a prorated fee.

During the initial stages of therapy, your therapist may extend your first few sessions beyond the standard 50 minutes. However, unless otherwise specified by your therapist, we kindly ask you to honor the allotted session time. If your sessions tend to exceed the designated time, your therapist will address this during sessions to ensure healthy boundaries regarding session duration are maintained.

How/when to terminate treatment?

Should you choose to end therapy at any point, we encourage scheduling a final session to reflect on the progress made during our time together. It’s not uncommon for clients to revisit therapy to navigate new challenges in the future. If you opt to return, please note that Relationship Passages maintains an open-door policy and values the opportunity to collaborate again. However, re-engagement will be subject to a therapist, clinical discretion, and availability, typically with a waitlist ranging from 2 to 3 weeks. If immediate availability isn’t possible, we’re more than willing to place you on the waitlist or assist you in finding suitable referrals to other therapists or clinics.

Dual Therapy

It is considered unethical for two separate therapists to provide counseling to the same client at the same time. Exceptions may arise in cases of urgent, clinical necessity, such as (crises or specialized adjunctive therapy), or during individual family therapy sessions. At Relationship Passages, our therapists do not engage with clients who are concurrently under the care of another therapist. If you are currently working with another therapist, please let us know so we can explore our alternative options together.

In instances where your therapist has referred you to Relationship Passages for specialized treatment (eg, EMDR), we will require your authorization to coordinate care with your primary clinician. This ensures that we can collaborate on a clinical plan that effectively supports your therapeutic journey.

Confidentiality and electronic data storage and email transmission

Ensuring the confidentiality of your client information is our top priority. At Relationship Passages, we have implemented a secure system to safeguard your clinical data confidentially. For this purpose, we utilize the following applications: Simple Practice, Gmail, and Google Calendar. These platforms enable us to electronically store and manage client information while maintaining confidentiality and securely communicating with clients over the Internet.

It’s important to note that these platforms and all protected health information are governed by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and 45 C.F.R., part 164, subpart C. This ensures compliance with HIPAA regulations regarding the confidentiality and security of your personal health information.
